Letter from UDW president

Fellow UDW Members,

This June elected delegates came together for UDW’s 18th Constitutional Convention to reflect on our historic wins and shape our union’s future.

Together we passed resolutions affirming our commitment to long-term care, child care for all, fighting for LGBTQIA+ justice, and more. We also officially welcomed UDW child care members as delegates for the first time in our union’s history, coming together to devote ourselves to the fight ahead. And we did not waste any time.

Immediately following our convention, we got right to work fighting the state’s proposed budget cuts to IHSS and child care. Together, we pushed back against these cuts amidst a historic budget deficit, and successfully protected home care and child care providers, which was a major victory for our programs.

But with elections right around the corner, a much larger fight is looming. We must work hard to ensure that candidates in California, and across the nation who are elected, care about the future of our work and our communities. It is up to us to ensure we have leaders who will fight to fund home care and child care, and who will fight for our rights to have our union and control of our own destiny.

Please make sure you’re registered to vote and please join me in electing pro-union, pro-worker, and pro-people candidates. It’s up to us to shape our communities, state, and nation!

In solidarity,

Astrid Zuniga
