UDW Blasts President Trump’s Disgraceful Attack on Disabled Workers After Airline Tragedy

UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 mourns the lives lost in the tragic plane crash near Washington, D.C., on January 29, 2025.

We are outraged by President Trump’s reckless attempt to shift blame for this tragedy onto disabled workers, using Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) hiring practices as a scapegoat.

“For the President of the United States to point fingers at disabled workers before an investigation is even complete is appalling,” said UDW Deputy Executive Director Johanna Hester.

“This shameful rhetoric is rooted in the same white supremacy, bigotry, and ignorance that fuels the anti-DEIA movement. Inclusive hiring practices do not weaken workplaces—they strengthen them by ensuring access to the most qualified, capable individuals, regardless of their background or abilities.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with all workers—regardless of disability, race, gender, or sexual orientation.

As always, UDW will continue to fight for the rights of workers, the well-being of our communities, and the dignity of children, seniors, and people with disabilities.”
