We are at a critical crossroads for workers’ rights and human rights in America. What we saw last night was a harsh wake-up call—a powerful reminder of the steep challenges facing working families, immigrants, and historically marginalized communities.
The headwinds we will face will be difficult, however, we have to meet these challenges head on and not take a step backwards.
Many of you have heard me make the following statement: “A setback is a setup for a comeback.”
We will not lay down and die, we will get up, dust ourselves off and keep fighting for justice!
Let me be clear: UDW will not back down. We are doubling down on our commitment to California’s home care and child care workers, their families, and those they serve. I won’t lie to you, these losses are a heavy blow, but it only sharpens our resolve to hold lawmakers accountable to our members and their communities. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and now is the time for unwavering action.
While California saw some victories and gained a few allies, we also encountered setbacks. But facing challenges head-on is what we do best at UDW. This road will be tough, but we are ready to march forward together, united and unshaken. Our union is built on the courage and strength of some of the hardest-working people in this country, and we refuse to let those who oppose us in Congress, or the White House weaken our resolve.
Fighting is in our DNA. We will stand up for every worker, every family, and every person seeking a fair shot at the American dream, no matter where they come from. This is who we are. We don’t give up, and we don’t stand down.
Today, we organize. And I can’t think of a stronger, more fearless group to stand shoulder to shoulder with than the members of UDW and the staff who are committed to fighting for Justice.
