Care can’t wait action coalition members release new TV & digital ad highlighting Kamala Harris’s commitment to care

Washington, DC – Today, Care Can’t Wait Action coalition members – AFSCME, AFT, Community Change Voters, MomsRising Together, National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, Paid Leave PAC, SEIU, and UDW released a new television and digital ad highlighting how caring for her mother showed Kamala Harris the importance of paid leave, child care, and home care with fair wages for care workers.

The $500,000 addressable TV & digital ad will run in GA, MI, NC, PA, WI, and Orange County, CA targeting a young black and brown audience urging them to call Congress to support care.

Kamala Harris has lived the personal struggle that so many families go through every single day to balance the need of caring for family with work. As a Senator, on the campaign trail, and as Vice President, Kamala Harris has turned that personal experience into fighting to help families and care workers. She has proposed some of the strongest paid leave and child and home care policies and has been a powerful, tireless voice for the value of care investments.

Kamala Harris also knows that investments in care must be paired with ensuring that care workers have fair wages, benefits, and the right to join a union, which is why she is a big supporter of the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act.

“Vice President Harris has fought alongside Joe Biden to deliver historic accomplishments and create a better life for all Americans,” said AFT President Randi Weingarten. “She has a record of fighting for us—fighting to lower the costs we pay, for reproductive rights, for worker empowerment and to keep communities safe from gun violence. As President Biden said in his endorsement of Kamala Harris, she has his full support to be the Democratic nominee for president.”

Grecia Lima, Executive Director of Community Change Voters: “Vice President Harris is the most qualified candidate to defeat Donald Trump. She’s been a longtime champion of the care economy and worked successfully to make it a top priority for the Biden-Harris administration. Vice President Harris understands that care workers are the backbone of our economy and that in order for our communities to thrive, we must reshape our economic framework. Vice President Harris is the progressive champion we need to build on the work of the current administration. Now it’s up to us–the people who make up our democracy–to harness this momentum and propel our movement to victory. We’re ready.”

“Vice President Kamala Harris has a remarkable track record of working to build the kind of robust care infrastructure that will make it possible for moms, families, businesses and our economy to succeed,” said Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising Together. “Her commitment is unshakable because it is borne of personal experience as a family caregiver – experience that resonates with moms and families across the country. Her support for paid family and medical leave, quality affordable child, elder and disability care, and fair wages for care workers will make her even more popular in the months ahead.”

“Vice President Harris’s experience and leadership on a range of critical issues, including on gender justice, makes clear that she is the right person for this moment. She has a long track record of advocating for the investments for our care system needed so that every family in this country can thrive. No matter where they live, this is an issue that matters to voters this election season. She is the President and leader our country deserves in 2025,” said Angel Padilla, Vice President for Strategy & Policy, National Women’s Law Center Action Fund.

“Vice President Harris is a proven leader who cares about our families, will fight for workers and beat Donald Trump,” said Rocio Sáenz, Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU. “Vice President Harris is committed to making home care and child care affordable for all. She’ll be a relentless fighter for a care workforce that is a majority women of color and immigrants. There’s no better advocate for our parents and our kids than Vice President Harris. Care workers and the families they support could have no better friend in the White House than Kamala.”

“Vice President Kamala Harris has the strongest record on paid leave in history,” said Dawn Huckelbridge, head of Paid Leave PAC. “She understands paid leave is a tool for public health, including maternal health; economic growth; and racial and gender equity. And importantly, as a caregiver herself she understands that nothing is more important than being there to care for the people we love. Our lack of care infrastructure is one of the biggest sources of financial and daily stress for American families, and she understands that, prioritizes it, and has a plan to solve it.”

“Child care and home care workers across California and the nation know that Vice President Harris is a tireless leader who stands up for workers and communities too often left on the sidelines in our political discussions, said Doug Moore, Executive Director of UDW/AFSCME Local 3930. “Her own experience caring for her mother helped inform her advocacy for domestic workers in California, the Senate, and the Biden-Harris administration. We look forward to childcare and homecare workers always having a seat at the table when she sits in the Oval Office.”
