SACRAMENTO – UDW/AFSCME Local 3930, a union representing over 170,000 home care workers and family child care providers in California, issued the following statement on Governor Newsom’s 2024-25 State Budget Plan:
“In moments like these, when the state faces a multi-billion dollar deficit, it is vital that we focus on what matters most: Californians, the working families who keep our state running, and those who need our care and support.
We applaud Governor Newsom’s 2024-25 budget plan, which keeps crucial commitments in place, including full funding for the IHSS program and the promise to work towards rate reform for child care workers that reflects the true cost of care. The budget also expands access to both IHSS and child care, meaning that more children, seniors, and Californians with disabilities who need care will have it.
Governor Newsom, just like the members of our union, stands for progress. He knows that even with a budget shortfall, we cannot turn back the clock on all the progress we have made towards a better, more equitable, and more just California. The only way through is forward—and we are excited to work with him in 2024 and beyond to build a better California for all.”
