SAN DIEGO — Governor Newsom’s 2025-2026 budget proposal protects UDW’s home care providers and their clients, while leaving family child care providers wondering when they will see a much needed raise.
“When it comes to home care and the IHSS program, we’re thankful that Governor Newsom did not make any proposed cuts to the program,” said UDW Executive Director Doug Moore. “Home care providers are an essential workforce in our great state, caring for our seniors and those living with disabilities and saving the state hundreds of millions of dollars.”
And while Gov. Newsom did not propose any cuts to child care, the budget did fail to commit to a much needed pay increase.
“While we recognize the state’s fiscal challenges, California is once again asking child care providers to wait on a much needed raise.” remarked Johanna Puno Hester, UDW’s Deputy Executive Director and Co-Chair of Child Care Providers. “We need to start paying these providers the true cost of care before they’re forced to shut their doors forever.”
Moore added, “UDW remains committed to protecting and defending access to care through the IHSS program and subsidized child care, especially in the face of pending attacks from the incoming Trump administration.”
