(SAN DIEGO, CA) – In response to last night’s House’s vote on a budget resolution that mandates at least $880 billion in federal spending cuts—which will primarily target Medicaid—to fund tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy, United Domestic Workers (UDW) issued the following statement:
“This budget resolution is a direct attack on working families, seniors, and people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid for essential health care. There is no way they can slash funds of this magnitude without cutting one of our nation’s most vital programs, medicaid, just to hand tax cuts to the wealthy is both reckless and cruel,” begins UDW Deputy Executive Director Johanna Hester. “Medicaid ensures millions of Americans—especially home care providers and the clients they serve—have access to the care they need. Cutting it to line the pockets of the rich is unacceptable, and we urge lawmakers to reject any proposed cuts to Medicaid as they move forward with this budget resolution.”
UDW represents over 200,000 home care providers across California who serve seniors and people with disabilities. The union remains committed to fighting for policies that protect Medicaid and support the workers and families who depend on it.
